It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Joy Irene Lambeth, on August 8, 2024. Joy was born on August 3, 1927, in Wolverhampton, England.
Joy had a difficult start in life. At three years old, her mother died. Joy was passed from relative to relative until her teenage years. She never really felt the love of a mother.
In the UK, during Joy’s early working years in a dress shop, she met James Lambeth, a butcher. They fell in love and married in 1947. Joy was predeceased by James in 1990 after 43 years of marriage. Jim and Joy, with two children, immigrated to Vancouver, Canada, in 1962. A third child was later born in Vancouver.
Mom will be missed by her three children. Derek, Sharon (Anthony) and Gary (Anji). Granma will be remembered dearly by her four granddaughters Nikki, Merissa (Derek), Ayla and Hilary.
Joy mourned for her grandson Trever. Also, great-grandchildren Olivia, Xander, Griffin, Elliot and Adalina will miss their Granma Joy.
Joy was an avid volunteer beginning in the 1970s, with CNIB bowling leagues at the Commodore Lanes, then with the church Lunch Hut in White Rock, BC. Joy also helped with ticket sales in Powell River for the Therapeutic Riding Association.
Joy moved to Powell River to be closer to family. She met some old friends and new ones. She enjoyed her time with her dear friend Jodi, Saturday morning coffee gals, her walking partner, friends at A&W, Starbucks, the Legion, her Friday night dinners, and friends at church. Mom loved her dinners and movies with her friend Margie, when things got tough! Thank you to all who welcomed and befriended Mom so late in her life.
Thank you Dr. C. Bonsor and to the staff and volunteers at Evergreen Care Unit, who cared for Mom in her last years.
Joy loved life and loved people. By request a family gathering will be honoured. May God bless you and keep you safe in His loving care.
