It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Leo and Fern Mousseau.
Leo passed peacefully surrounded by family on March 24, 2024. Fern passed 39 days later in Willingdon Creek Village Residence on May 2, 2024.
In 1967, Leo and Fern moved from Ontario to Powell River, where one of his sisters had moved years earlier, with their eldest son in tow and baby number two on the way, in hopes of providing their growing family a better life.
Upon arriving in Powell River, Leo immediately began working (noon the day he arrived) in a sign shop on Marine Avenue. Later working on the green chain in the mill and in construction, he eventually became a painting contractor. Leo was a master painter and passed his skills onto his sons, two of which now practice the trade. In his spare time, Leo enjoyed playing pool, baseball and guitar, and also enjoyed a quiet day fishing on the lake.
Fern selflessly gave to her family and Leo, loving her children and grandchildren; they were her world. She loved walking, baking, family gatherings and chatting with everyone and anyone.
Leo and Fern are survived by their children Darren (Wendy), Dean (Tracey), Duane (Lisa) and Dina (Ryan), grandchildren Trent, Skyler, Braeden, Chase, Devon, Marshall, Mason and Alyssa, and great-grandson Octavian. In Powell River, Leo also leaves behind his sister Rita Deforge and brother Real Mousseau. Fern and Leo are survived by many family members in Ontario and Alberta.
There will be a small gathering of family and friends on June 8, from 1 to 4 pm at 4932 Queens Avenue, to celebrate Leo and Fern's lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Four Tides Hospice Society to assist in the effort to construct a hospice house for the community.
