Born in Powell River General Hospital to Margaret and Howard Bowes. Jan passed away suddenly, leaving behind her daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Shawn and two beautiful grandchildren Selena and Maya; brothers Don (Carole), David (Patty) and families. Jan was predeceased by her husband Arvid.
In her youth, Jan became Miss Powell River and then went on to become Miss PNE, where she shone like a diamond. She attained a Bachelor of Arts degree from UBC and worked as a legal secretary in Vancouver before returning to Powell River, where she had a long career as administrative assistant to the superintendents at the school board office.
Jan will be remembered as a talented flutist and a wonderful vocalist. When Jan retired she generously devoted her time to helping friends, especially by cooking and baking. She will be missed by her many friends and family. A sincere thank-you to Rod Warman, Jan’s friend from childhood at Canoe Bay to the last days of her life. A memorial will be held at a later date to be announced.
