It is with great sadness that we share the news that our beloved Jack Tesch passed away at Evergreen Extended Care Unit in Powell River. He was predeceased by his parents and two of three brothers in Saskatchewan. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Betty, his children Jackie (née Tesch), Glen Tesch and Barbara Rittaler. In addition, he had five grandchildren Jaime, Nicola, Kristine, Colleen and Mark, and three great-grandchildren.
Jack was born at his home in Mervin, Saskatchewan, and grew up working on the Tesch family farm. He later attended Normal School in Saskatoon and became a teacher at Brooksdale School, which was a one-room schoolhouse in Saskatchewan. He came to BC with his younger brother and loved the weather and green grass. He then relocated to Powell River in 1952 and took a job as a paper worker at the mill until 1967.
He wore many hats throughout the years. He built houses, became a pilot and engaged in roles as an avid gardener, handyman, baseball and hockey player, and musician. He could often be found in the garage working on projects.
Jack loved his family and always made life decisions that would be in their best interest. He encouraged and inspired us to do the best of our ability by living his life as a perfect example.
The community will also remember him as one of Powell River's finest letter carriers of 21 years. He wore his full uniform proudly and always smiled and did his job rain or shine. He was the most kind, gentle soul who could light up any room with his contagious grin and amazing blue eyes. He was one of the best fathers and grandfathers anyone could ask for. There isn't a person who didn't adore him for the beautiful man he was.
His retirement years were fulfilled with travels throughout the world, returning to Cuba many times. He enjoyed golfing with his friends and his highlight was when he scored a hole in one on number 17. He got great pleasure from playing old-time music on his guitar or violin. He volunteered many hours playing music at the ECU and long term care, where he initiated many smiles by sharing his talent for the enjoyment of others. We are all blessed with the memories he created.
“Rest in peace, you made this world so much brighter. We will always miss you, but you are forever in our thoughts.”
We would like to thank the ECU staff, Dr. DuToit, the home support staff for their care toward Jack, and all family and friends who either visited or supported us during times of need.
By request, there is no funeral or memorial service. Instead, he asked that people keep their memories of him close to their hearts.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Evergreen Extended Care Unit or Canadian Cancer Society.
“Those we love don't leave us, they walk beside us every day.”
