Gerald (Gerry), passed away quietly on January 27. He was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Gerd, and his eldest son David. He is survived by his son Peter (Wendy) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dad was a Vancouver boy, born and raised, but early in his career he moved around all over the province of BC. In 1965 he and his young family moved to Powell River and fell in love with the place. He enjoyed boating, water-skiing and fishing in the local waters. Later he learned to scuba dive, kayak and cycle.
Well-known in Powell River’s retail sector, dad had many fellow realtor friends with whom he’d often go on fishing trips. He enjoyed these immensely, even if the fishing was less than successful. It wasn’t about the fish.
Known to his family and friends as the “King of the Groaners” he loved puns and “dad jokes,” many of which he recycled again and again. I know that when I see him next he will have some new material.
A celebration of life for both Gerry and Gerd will be held this summer. Please send an email to [email protected] if you’d like to be notified once it is scheduled.
Big thanks to the staff of the fourth floor of qathet General Hospital for making his stay comfortable. You are all wonderful!
Please make donations to the Powell River Hospital Foundation, in lieu of flowers.
