It is with extreme sadness we share on Christmas Day our beloved Beryl passed away after a brief stay in hospital with her loving family by her side.

Beryl, who had many nicknames, was affectionately known as Nannie to her family. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Lesley DiZazzo; granddaughter Tara DiZazzo; son-in-law, Roberto DiZazzo; and her many friends. Beryl was predeceased by her dear husband John.

Beryl was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England and grew up in Risley, Cheshire, where she worked at Atomic Energy. She met the love of her life, John Hooper, and they were married in 1954. They lived in Grappenhall, Cheshire, England, where their daughter Lesley was born. In 1966 the family immigrated to British Columbia, settling in Powell River, where Beryl worked in the accounting department of School District 47. She loved her job so much that John had to persuade her to take vacation time. Beryl had a red carpet retirement in 1991.

Beryl loved running and dancing and won many races and twist contests in England. Here, her hobbies were hiking, dancing, camping, reading, boating (unless she had to dock the boat!) and recently cribbage. She explored the world with family and friends and also enjoyed many wonderful cruises. She truly loved the winters they spent as snowbirds in Yuma, Arizona, and the incredible social life there.

Throughout her life, Beryl was known for the fun she always brought to every situation. Her smiles, laughter, cackles and giggles would light up her face and our lives. She was elegant, kind and loving with a mind as sharp as her wit.

Family meant everything to Beryl and spending time together was the highlight of her life and ours. We will love her forever, miss her for always and cherish every memory. There are so many.

Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Pieter Rossouw and Kim and the nurses on the fourth floor of the hospital. Your care and compassion for Beryl meant so much and will never be forgotten.

Beryl spent the last six years living at Kiwanis Garden Manor, a place she loved to call home and we loved to visit. The care, love, support and dedication of all the wonderful staff will always be deeply appreciated by our family. Thank you.

At Beryl’s request, there will not be a service. If you wish, donations in Beryl’s name may be made to Kiwanis Garden Manor and/or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon.
