It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of longtime Powell River resident Edna Catherine Spreeuw. She passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, at the age of 86. Edna was born in Bancroft, Ontario, on January 8, 1938. She moved to Texada Island in 1961 and a few years later made her way to Powell River. She worked for many years as a waitress at the Marine Inn, where she was known for her hard work, but more importantly her kindness. It was at the Marine Inn where she met the love of her life, Casey, whom she married in 1986.
Edna was well known for her caring nature. She was gifted with many talents, speaking multiple languages, playing piano and creating beautiful art and intricate crafts. When Edna was not at home, she was travelling the world with Casey. If you knew Edna, you would have seen the world with her as she loved to create memory albums with the many photos taken and information collected along the journey.
Edna will be lovingly remembered by her husband Casey, daughter Karla, son David (Amanda), stepchildren Johanna (Dayle), Francis (Debbie) and Ron (Wendy), grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. Edna will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
A celebration of life for Edna was planned, but has been postponed. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
