It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dear dad, Art, who passed surrounded by family on December 11.

Art was predeceased by his parents, Pearl and Vernon Sadler and daughter Sandi. He is survived by Norma Forbes; children Patti (Dan), Ian (Anida), Brian (Stacey) and Janine (Derek); grandchildren Sadie, Brendan (Tiffany), Colin (Alex), Kate and Ruby; and great-grandchildren Sebastian, Blayke, Kaycie, Jhase, Maya and Max.

Dad grew up in Powell River and worked in the mill, starting on the paper machines at 17, then in the mill stores until retiring in 1991. He was a drummer in the company pipe band in the 1950s.

Dad was a fisherman and hunter, an executive of the Rod & Gun Club for years, and taught the first CORE hunting program. He enjoyed square dancing, pool, darts, poker and winning! He was competitive and never "let" the grandkids win, they had to beat him.

An adventurous spirit, he tried many things in retirement, from whitewater rafting to completing the one-day, 64-kilometre Great Walk between Gold River and Tahsis at 77.

Dad spent his later years in the Comox Valley and loved walks with his dog Ginger, playing poker with friends and having family nearby. Art was a great Dad - kind and humorous and loved us with all his heart, as we loved him. He will be deeply missed.

Thanks to Dr. Williams, Dr. Anderson, nurses Rob and Kira, and more at the Comox Valley Hospital for their care and compassion.
