Phyllis Kiely was born in Ottawa and raised in St. Lambert, Quebec. She had a happy and active early life and was very athletic, playing hockey, basketball, tennis and skiing in the Laurentians. She had to play mostly with boys, as girls just weren’t playing those sports then.

Along with her sister Dot, Phyllis was a WWII veteran, working in communications in the RAF. She also became a swimming champion in armed forces’ competition.

Moving to the West Coast in 1947, Phyllis worked in the old Powell River stores. She married Ted Williams in 1949 and raised three children, returning to full time work after the youngest was in grade three. Along the way she took up golf and curling, winning many trophies in both and playing into her mid 90s.

After retirement, Phyllis gave much time to volunteer, sit on boards and donated generously to causes near her heart. She loved all animals and most humans, but took no guff from either. A long, active life well lived.

Love you, Mom. Rest in peace.

Predeceased by her husband of 54 years Ted, daughter Marilyn, sister Dorothy and brother Jim, Phyllis is survived by daughter Sandra (Mario), son Dave (Darlene) and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

We are grateful to the terrific staff at Evergreen ECU for taking such loving care of ‘Grandma’.
