It is with great sadness that the family of Alfred Anton Pfister announces his sudden passing in Powell River on Sunday, May 12, 2024. Alfred, known as Fred, was born in Leimen, Germany, on July 19, 1934.
In 1952, Fred immigrated to Canada, where he settled in Powell River, BC. He enjoyed a long and successful career of 40-plus years at the MacMillan Bloedel pulp mill, where he started out as a millwright and progressed into a supervisory role until his retirement. Fred was highly respected by his crew and supervisors and known to always do what was needed to get the job done.
Through the years, Fred’s passions included swimming (he won numerous awards in Germany), hunting, fishing, watching hockey and scuba diving, as well as riding his ATV through the backroads of Powell River, always with Delores hanging on for dear life on the back of the quad.
Fred will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years Delores; children Simone (Paul) Kutz and Ron (Dianne) Pfister, stepchildren Len (Rita) Knapp and Guy (Nina) Knapp; grandchildren Melinda (Jason), Sherenna (Anthony), Scott, Allan (Miriam), Amanda (Darian) and Brody (Natahlie); great-grandchildren Keanna-Lee, Taylor, Alexzanderia and Ronan; numerous other family members including Fred’s sisters-in-law; nieces Monika and Barbara; and nephews Werner and Walter from Germany. Fred was predeceased by his parents Peter and Marie; siblings Trudel and Otto; and nephew Michael.
A celebration of Fred’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 1:30 pm, at St. David and St. Paul Anglican Church, 6310 Sycamore Street in Powell River.
The family would like to thank the qathet General Hospital MSP fourth floor and ECU nurses and staff for their care of Fred.
Fred will be dearly missed by family and friends. We are all blessed by having Fred in our lives and will cherish his memories forever.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Powell River Salmon Society at salmonpreservation.org.
