Vernon passed away on April 14 with his wife Frances (McNicol) Thomas by his side. He was predeceased by his parents Clarence and Florence (McGuffie) Thomas.
Vernon was born in Powell River and at age 14 he quit school to go to sea on merchant ships for four years. He then went to work at MacMillan Bloedel and became a sawyer in the sawmill until he retired at age 60.
Vernon lived in his grandfather Robert McGuffie's original house and property where he had many animals, including horses, chickens, ducks, turkeys and peacocks for much of his life. He also enjoyed many trips to the interior of BC and camping at SkiHist provincial park was a favourite.
Thank you to Dr. Barrie McDonald for his excellent care, and to the nurses and staff at qathet General Hospital.
