It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Roderick Donald Innes on November 10, 2024, at the age of 86.

Rod was born to Mary Elizabeth (Small) and Robert Henry Innes on February 7, 1938, in Nestow, Alberta, the oldest of three children. In 1946, the family moved to Powell River. His father built their family home at Mowat Bay. Rod often spoke of how wonderful it was to grow up in Cranberry. Rod’s working life began in sawmills in various areas of BC. He returned to Powell River, where he worked in the mill for 31 years.

Rod’s passing has left a void in the hearts of all who were touched by the life of this free-spirited, wise and always kind man. Rod is survived by his loving wife and best friend Debbie; son Cameron (Crystal); grandson Brayen; stepson Gord; brother Robert (Ann); sister Judy (Mel); nieces Casey, Serena, Lisa and Meaghan; nephew Judson; great-niece Mandy; and great-nephews Mitchell, Eric and Evan. Rod was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, stepfather and uncle.

Rod loved the nature around him and spent his happiest times hiking, spending time up the lake or sailing on the ocean. He bought a horse, learned to ride and was active with Powell River Trail Riders. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, gardening and selling at the farmers’ market. He was a true artist at heart and created numerous lovely spontaneous paintings and poems. Rod loved photography with a passion and is well known for his wonderful nature photos.

Rod loved life and made the most of it. Let us remember him that way. The family is grateful to Dr. Naylor and the staff at qathet General Hospital for the compassionate care they gave to Rod in the last days of his life.

A celebration of Rod’s life will be announced at a later date.
