Tourism group earns award

Trophy celebrates working together

Sunshine Coast Tourism, the regional body which includes Tourism Powell River, has been awarded a trophy recognizing its ability to work with others. At its annual general meeting, Vancouver Coast and Mountains presented Sunshine Coast Tourism with the 2013 Power of Partnership award.

“We’re honored and slightly surprised,” said Paul Kamon, marketing director for both Sunshine Coast Tourism and Tourism Powell River. He added that the award, which was new this year, was unexpected, but welcome.

“We’re working with very limited funds and doing a lot of exceptional marketing with very little, and they wanted to recognize that,” said Kamon.

The partnership prize acknowledges the ties Sunshine Coast Tourism has created with its members in the community, as well as with other destination marketing organizations such as Vancouver Coast and Mountains and Destination BC, Kamon explained. It also recognizes the partnership between Powell River and the Lower Sunshine Coast that forms Sunshine Coast Tourism itself, he added.

The recipient of the award was chosen by Vancouver Coast and Mountains staff.

“What it means to Tourism Powell River is that our partnership is working,” Kamon said. “We are stronger as a region.”
