Autumn officially starts Sept. 22.

The autumnal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere falls on Sept. 22 (this coming Sunday). According to the National Research Council of Canada’s website, “Fall starts at the moment when the sun is directly over the equator, going from north to south”.  At that specific time, Earth's axis is tilted side-on to the sun.  The result: there's an almost equal amount of sunlight and darkness across the globe.

There’s less than a 35 per cent chance of enjoying a sunny first day of Fall on the lower Sunshine Coast, according to Weatherhood. The outlook for both of the coming weekend days is for clouds and on Sunday, rain.

If you are looking for brighter skies, Environment Canada's forecast says today and Friday will continue to offer those along with mild daytime high temperatures in 17 to 18 degree range.'s
