Approves heritage service research
At its meeting on Thursday, April 27, Powell River Regional District board approved a committee recommendation to establish an elected official working group to research the merits of creating a regional heritage/museum funding service.

Approves partnering on grant applications
The regional board approved partnering with City of Powell River and Tla’amin Nation to apply for Active Communities and PlanH grants. Both grants would provide local governments with provincial funds for developing health and recreation programming for children and seniors.

Approves Texada Island grants-in-aid
The regional board approved $8,200 in Texada Island-related grant-in-aid applications: $1,000 will go toward supporting the island’s Sandcastle Weekend; $2,200 will go to Royal Canadian Legion #232 to offset a portion of its property taxes as the organization’s hall is currently being used for the general public; and $5,000 to go toward repair costs of the Legion’s dish sanitizer.

Approves hospice society grant-in-aid
The regional board approved a $2,412 grant-in-aid contribution from electoral areas A, B and C to support 2017/2018 operations of Powell River Hospice Society.

Authorizes festival bus funding
The regional board authorized funding $1,208.16 from the regional district public transit budget to provide bus service to Lund Shellfish Festival on May 27 and 28. Riders will be charged a $2 fee for transport each way to help offset some of the cost of providing the service.

Approves learning centre projects
The regional board gave its approval to construction of a gate at the entrance of School District 47’s Outdoor Learning Centre inside Haywire Bay Regional Park and development of an interpretive nature trail within the learning centre’s boundaries.
