Free fishing
Powell River residents can celebrate both Father’s Day and BC’s Family Fishing Weekend. Freshwater fishing is free during the entire weekend, from Friday, June 17 to Sunday, June 19. BC residents can try angling within the rules and don’t need to carry a freshwater or tidal fishing licence.
Powell River Outdoors (PRO), along with A&W Restaurant and Powell River’s Conservation Officer Service, are organizing a family fishing event from 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday, June 19 at Inland Lake. PRO is supplying prizes, as well as rods and reels to use, and A&W is providing hamburgers and hot dogs. Local conservation officers will be attending to answer questions and provide information to people who attend.
Interested readers can reserve rods and reels by calling 604.485.2555, extension 2.
This year is the 12th annual family fishing weekend and honours the memory of Bill Otway, past president of the Family Fishing Society.
