City of Powell River is holding two open houses for the public to weigh in on the city’s draft five-year financial plan.

At the Thursday, April 2, City of Powell River Council meeting, Councillor Russell Brewer, who chairs the city’s finance committee, said the open houses will be an opportunity for members of the public to find out what the city is proposing regarding its draft financial plan.

“Those attending the open houses will have an opportunity to comment, to provide the city feedback, and then we will be considering all of that feedback before we adopt the five-year financial plan early in May,” Brewer said. “If people can, they should make a point of getting out to one of those two open houses.”

The first open house is tonight, 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, April 8, at Cranberry Seniors’ Centre. The second is at Powell River Recreation Complex lower foyer at 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, April 15.

The plan is available on the city’s website and also at city hall, 6910 Duncan Street during regular office hours.

Anticipated expenditures, funding sources, revenue from taxation, fees and charges, and proposed transfers between funds are included in the draft plan, which covers January 1, 2015 through December 31, 2019.

After review of the plan, the public is invited to submit comments before council considers adoption of the plan. The final plan must be adopted before May 15. Lynda Sowerby, the city’s manager of accounting services, can be contacted at 604.485.8652 for more information.
