At a qathet Regional District meeting on March 6, the regional board shared that it had become a co-signatory to the letter from North Coast Regional District (NCRD) to the minister of housing regarding expanding the secondary suite incentive program to include all regional districts.
The joint letter states that in September 2023, the BC government announced that in April 2023, the province will introduce a pilot program to create more affordable housing in BC. The letter states that 16 regional districts were included, along with 161 incorporated municipalities, but 11 regional districts were left out, including qRD.
Correspondence from the NCRD indicates that the included regional districts have the necessary building bylaws and building permit and inspection services. qRD does not.
