A test of qathet Regional Emergency Preparedness Program's Community Notification System will take place at 2 pm on Wednesday, November 27. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance regional public safety and emergency readiness, according to a media release from qathet Regional District (qRD).

“Each time we test the system, we see an uptick in registrations, which is a positive sign that the system will reach more people when it matters most,” stated Ryan Thoms, qRD's manager of emergency services. “We encourage everyone to sign up and to talk to their family, friends and neighbours about registering. Being connected and informed can make all the difference during an emergency.”

To register for the Community Notification System, go to qathet.ca/emergency-preparedness and click on “Enroll in the Community Notification System."

For anyone requiring assistance with registration, Powell River Public Library adult services coordinator Mark Merlino offers technical help. He can be contacted at [email protected] or 604.485.4796 for an appointment booking

The test is conducted in partnership with City of Powell River and Tla’amin Nation. The Community Notification System is a vital communications tool designed to keep local residents and visitors informed during large-scale emergencies and disasters.
