Sending correspondence
qathet Regional District’s board of directors will send a letter of explanation to Ecole Côte-du-Soleil regarding the cessation of paper waste collection in the region.

Directors voted to contact the school at the November 6 regional board meeting.

The school wrote the regional district expressing concerns about the cessation of industrial, commercial and institutional recycling. Kindergarten and grade one teacher Anastasiya Dyka had written concerning cessation of paper waste collection at the school.

“As an educational institution, we are committed not only to the academic development of our students, but also to instilling in them important values, such as environmental responsibility and sustainable practices,” stated Dyka in her correspondence to the regional district. “A key part of this is teaching our students about the importance of recycling and their role in protecting the environment.”

In addition to sending the letter of explanation, the board has directed staff to inform the public regarding the ending of the recycling of industrial, commercial and institutional packaging and paper products.
