Powell River U15 Kings opened play at the BC Hockey Tier 3 provincial championship on Cranbrook with a 9-2 win over Greater Trail on Sunday, March 16.
Kooper Kozmeniuk led the way offensively for Powell River with a five-goal performance. He also assisted on goals by Cooper Lawry and Lucas Gruntman.
Carson Laing and Gabriel Caldarone also scored for Powell River. Assists were credited to Ryder Sherris, Laing, Gruntman, James Barrows and Caldarone.
Kings faced Whitehorse U15 Mustangs on Monday, March 17, and improved their record to 2-0 with a 10-3 win.
Eight players scored during the game, with Reid Stekman recording a hat-trick. Other goal-scorers were Gruntman, Kelser Brown, Grayden Kendrick, Lawry, Cameron Milne, Kozmeniuk and Lucas Vizzutti. Three Powell River goals came during power plays.
Powell River plays Dawson Creek on Tuesday, March 18, at 10 am.
