Four candidates are campaigning to represent the Powell River-Sunshine Coast riding as MLA. General election day is October 19.
To conclude a three-part question and answer series, Chris Moore (Conservative Party of BC), Randene Neill (BC NDP), Greg Reid (Independent) and Christopher Hergesheimer (Green Party of BC) were asked the following question:
Why should voters in the Powell River-Sunshine Coast riding choose you to represent them as their MLA in Victoria?
Here is the response from Chris Moore (Conservative Party):
Change begins with the recognition that a problem exists. The economy, crime and health care have been completely mismanaged under the NDP government and I will support the BC Conservatives plans to change the long list of unsustainable administration.
The Rustad rebate will give up to $3,000 per month of rent or mortgage interest costs exempt from provincial income tax. We will implement a “Patients First” model of universal care, as access to a waiting list is not health care. We will phase in European-style activity-based funding, which establishes wait-time guarantees and will continue to pay for your health care.
The NDP has failed our seniors, leaving them vulnerable to increased crime, living costs and deteriorating services. We will boost tax credits for family caregivers as well as expanding respite care and caregiver training (to reduce staff burnout) and eliminate daily user fees for home support services.
BC Conservatives will deliver 5,000 long-term care beds province-wide by 2030 and will provide for assistive health necessities such as eyeglasses, mobility aids and hearing aids to promote independence. We will also cover the cost of essential vaccines including shingles and high-dose flu shots, and increase support for those with dementia.
We will prioritize the well-being of seniors through improved health care, housing and safety measures, and double the Home Renovation Tax Credit to help them stay longer in the home they love. It's a tall order but we are confident that we will get the province back to work to pay for the services we need.
