DRIVING CHANGE: Powell River Community Foundation has been provided $175,000 for local organizations to advance poverty reduction and social inclusion.

Powell River Community Foundation (PRCF) is participating in the community prosperity fund, a $25 million investment from the Government of BC that advances poverty reduction and social inclusion in local communities.

PRCF has been provided $175,000.

“The community prosperity fund will be immensely beneficial for charities, nonprofits and Indigenous-serving organizations in Powell River and qathet Regional District,” stated PRCF president Dave Hodgins, in a media release. “We know these organizations improve our communities by advancing poverty reduction and social inclusion. If they thrive, we thrive. This type of funding is essential for our community to grow and create communities where we all belong.”

The release stated that the provincial government recognizes that nonprofits are vital to people and communities in BC. The community prosperity fund will drive positive change within Powell River and qathet Regional District, according to the release.

Announced on the inaugural BC Nonprofit Day, the community prosperity fund is a unique funding structure that allows communities and organizations to decide how they use the funding. PRCF will ensure applications are reviewed at the local level, according to the release.

The community prosperity fund also responds to what the community needs by creating space to implement the funding over up to three years and supporting both operational expenses and project delivery funding, the release stated. This ensures non-profits can decide what would most benefit them and their communities.

Applications for the fund are now being accepted and can be submitted until June 24. Charities, non-profit organizations and Indigenous-serving organizations whose work advances poverty reduction and social inclusion in local communities are encouraged to apply.
