Yellow crime scene tape cordoning off the area on the banks of Powell River in Townsite where human remains were discovered is coming down after almost a week of police investigation.

Powell River RCMP had secured the area on the Townsite side of Wildwood bridge since human remains were located there on the evening of Friday, October 2.

“We utilized the resources of the scuba team this morning,” said Powell River RCMP constable Tim Kenning, who added the crime scene was then released at approximately 2 pm on Thursday, October 8.

Police were not able to release any further information on the ongoing investigation at this time, he said.

Kenning also added that no further information was available on the whereabouts of Charles Yvon Mercier, a 35-year-old Powell River resident who police have been searching for since Friday, September 25.

Meanwhile, investigators from Vancouver Island Major Crime Unit and BC Coroner Service continue to look into the deaths of two adults found dead on Wednesday, September 30 inside a holiday home in Bliss Landing.

No further information has been released about the investigation, said Kenning.
