Powell River RCMP officers reported the following for July 17 to 25, 2023.
Total calls for service: 141
Thefts: 3
Break and enter: 3
Impaired driving: 4
Assaults: 3
Mischief: 8
Mental health: 11
Identity fraud
At approximately 11:57 am on July 20, Powell River RCMP received a report that a resident had received a letter from a bank stating that a loan had been taken out in the resident’s name and the first payment would come out of their account the following week. The resident immediately contacted the bank, Equifax and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. No money was taken from the account.
Police are reminding everyone to protect their personal information and not to provide any financial information or personal details such as birth dates, driver’s licence numbers, social insurance numbers or passport numbers to any unsolicited contacts, or anyone whose identity cannot be verified.
