February 24, Highway 101, south
At approximately 5 am, BC Emergency Health Services (EHS) advised Powell River RCMP of a single vehicle collision on Highway 101 just north of Lang Bay Road. Police attended and observed a pick-up truck that was crushed against a telephone pole.
Initial evidence gathered at scene suggested that the vehicle was travelling southbound on Highway 101 and had veered off the road and struck a telephone pole, according to RCMP.
Police report there were three occupants inside the vehicle at the time of the collision. Unfortunately, the driver was pronounced deceased on scene. The other two passengers were transported to hospital with serious injuries.
“The collision remains under investigation, including the circumstances prior to the crash,” said Constable Paula Perry, spokesperson for Powell River RCMP.
