Powell River RCMP officers reported the following for September 13 to 19, 2023.
Total calls for service: 134
Thefts: 8
Break and enter: 5
Impaired driving: 2
Assaults: 5
Mischief: 4
Mental health: 11
September 16; Texada
At approximately 9:15 am, Texada Island RCMP were on patrol and observed a vehicle with an unsecure load on its deck. A traffic stop was initiated and upon further inspection, it was also observed that the vehicle’s breakaway device was not functioning. The driver was issued a violation ticket for unsecure load contrary to the Motor Vehicle Act and an out of service notice until the breakaway device is fixed.
September 19; Powell River
At approximately 9:04 am, Powell River RCMP received a report of a fraudulent email that appeared to have been sent from the RCMP Cyber Crime Unit. The email stated that the resident was under investigation for child pornography offences and demanded a response to the email. The resident did not respond and immediately phoned police.
RCMP would like to remind everyone that communications regarding criminal offences will not be received via email and that communications from legitimate government agencies will come from government email addresses, and not common addresses such as gmail, yahoo, hotmail, et cetera.
Anyone who receives a similar email, or any email that appears suspicious should not respond to the email and call local RCMP.
