Powell River RCMP reported the following for April 27 to May 4, 2022.

April 27; Edgehill Crescent, 7100 block
Powell River RCMP received a theft report from a construction site. A Makita-brand charger and battery valued at $400 were reported stolen overnight. No evidence was located at the scene. Anyone with information related to the theft is asked to call RCMP. File number is 2022-1814.
May 2; Marine Avenue, 5600 block
At 8:22 am, Powell River RCMP responded to a well-being check. A witness observed a female slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle unresponsive. Police attended and observed the female was slumped over, was breathing and held a syringe plunger in one hand and a drug pipe and torch in her other hand. Police woke up the driver, who showed signs of indicia or recent drug use.
Police conducted field sobriety testing to which the female failed. She was brought back to the detachment for further testing and her vehicle was towed. The female was released with a 24-hour suspension under the Motor Vehicle Act; the Criminal Code impaired driving investigation is continuing pending forensic lab analysis.
May 2; Highway 101, 7300 block
At 1:26 pm, Powell River RCMP received a complaint of a dangerous driver travelling northbound toward town. The witness described a blue sedan, possibly a Subaru, passing another vehicle at a high rate of speed as the driver was holding something out of the window. The vehicle continued to pass illegally at high rates of speed and drove aggressively.
A blue sedan was observed passing multiple vehicles on Joyce Avenue at Westview Avenue, turning right onto Glacier Street and proceeding to Manson Avenue. Anyone with dash camera footage is asked to review their footage for any evidence, and a suspect licence plate. Additionally, anyone with information is asked to call RCMP or Crime Stoppers. Police file is 2022-1915.
May 2; Marine Avenue at Joyce Avenue
At 4:55 pm, Powell River RCMP responded to a mischief in progress. Multiple callers reported that a male armed with a hammer was in the middle of the street smashing cars and windows. Police attended and located a naked man standing on the road with a cane. The 55-year-old male was arrested for mischief and transported to Powell River General Hospital for medical assessment. The mischief investigation is ongoing.
