March 16; Alberni Street, 7000 block
At 7:27 am, Powell River RCMP received a complaint from the public of an audible alarm and open bay door at the Salvation Army on Alberni Street. Officers attended and located a pry bar next to the partially open bay door at the back of the building. Police located one female suspect inside the business who attempted to flee. She was arrested for break and enter. Police located damage to the bay door, and damage throughout the interior of the business. The female suspect was in possession of items that belonged to the Salvation Army. She has been identified as a 24-year-old Powell River resident. The female was lodged in custody for a bail hearing before a justice. She is detained in custody and her next court appearance is March 24.
March 17; Zilinsky Road, 2800 block
At 2:44 am, police responded to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, police located a 44-year-old female with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her lower abdomen. The female advised police that the gunshot was accidental due to lack of knowledge handling firearms. The investigation into firearms offences is ongoing.
March 17; Aspen Avenue
At 1 pm, RCMP received a report of mischief to a garage door at a residence. An unknown suspect had used purple spray paint to graffiti the letters “PCK” on the white garage door. Video surveillance shows the back of the suspect committing the offence and departing the area on foot. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, sandy blond hair, wearing black running shoes, grey Nike sweatpants, a black “York” long sleeve hooded sweatshirt and a black and red Mac-style jacket.
March 22; Court report
On March 5, 2021, Davin Shortridge of Powell River attended a residence on Maple Avenue, smashed a window, uttered threats and caused injury to two occupants inside the residence. One male victim received injuries to his leg and one female victim received substantial injury to her eye. Police arrested Shortridge and recommended charges of assault causing bodily harm, assault, utter threats and mischief over $5,000. On March 22, 2022, Shortridge appeared in Powell River Provincial Court and was convicted of assault causing bodily harm and assault. He received a conditional sentence for two months with a curfew and probation for 16 months for the assault causing bodily harm. He received a suspended sentence and 16 months probation for the assault conviction. A stay of proceedings was entered on the utter threats and mischief charges.
March 23; Court report
On May 9, 2020, Powell River RCMP responded to a suspicious male at a vacation rental south of town. Police responded and identified Karlo Cacnio, a 36-year-old resident of Surrey. Cacnio was in possession of a grocery bag and asked police to check the contents. Police checked the contents of the grocery bag and discovered a number of handguns and ammunition. Cacnio was charged with a number of firearms offences. On March 23, 2022, Cacnio appeared in Powell River Provincial Court and was convicted on one count of careless use/storage of firearms. He received a suspended sentence with a nine-month probation order, a firearm prohibition for 10 years and a $200 victim surcharge.

On September 21, 2021, Powell River RCMP received a report of an utter threats. A male attended the RCMP detachment to report a suspect had posted multiple videos on TikTok making threats to his life. One video posted showed the suspect using his hand as a gun and shooting at the victim, and a second video depicted the suspect cleaning a knife with blood on it and a victim lying on the ground. On March 23, 2022, Shawn Arnold, 25 years old of Powell River, appeared in Powell River Provincial Court and was convicted of utter threats. Arnold received a suspended sentence and a 12-month probation order.
