Powell RCMP reported 110 calls for service from April 7 to 14.

Powell River RCMP reported the following for April 7 to 13, 2021.

Thefts: 6
Assaults: 3
Impaired driving: 2

April 7; Joyce Avenue
At 9 am, police received a report of a male refusing to wear a mask indoors at a business. The 66-year-old male entered the business and became belligerent and rude when asked by staff to put a mask on. When asked to leave for the safety of staff and other customers, the male refused. He was issued two violation tickets for failure to wear a face covering in a public indoor space, and abusive and belligerent behaviour under the COVID-19 Related Measures Act. The fines totalled $660.

April 10; King Avenue, 6400 block
At approximately 9 pm, police received a report of an indoor social gathering taking place in contravention of the current health order. Police attended and spoke to the 24-year-old homeowner, who admitted to having 10 people inside his house from multiple households. The homeowner was issued a fine of $230 for promoting a non-compliant event under the COVID-19 Related Measures Act. All guests were asked to leave and they complied.

April 10; Powell River
At approximately 8:10 pm, police received a report of an impaired driver who had just left a local business. Police responded and located the vehicle heading northbound on Highway 101. After speaking to the driver, police detected strong signs of impairment. The 26-year-old male refused to provide a breath sample for the breathalyzer test. As a result, he was issued a 90-day driving prohibition for the refusal and the vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days.

April 13; Chilco Avenue, 6400 block
At approximately 11:30 am, police received a report of a theft from a vehicle. $9,588 worth of Nikon DSLR camera gear including the camera, various lenses and tripods had been taken from the back of the owner’s truck, which was parked in the driveway. Police are asking anyone with video surveillance in the area to contact Powell River RCMP.
