Powell River RCMP responded to 73 total calls for service from January 22 to 28, including two thefts, two break and enters, two for impaired driving, four cases of mischief and five related to mental health.
January 23
At approximately 10:30 am, Powell River RCMP responded to a report of an audible and monitored alarm at Putters Mini Golf on Marine Avenue. Upon arrival, it was determined that the ice cream shop had been broken into and several items had been taken. There was significant damage to the store.
January 25
Powell River RCMP received a report that three different people had e-transferred money for the same item on Facebook Marketplace. The seller advertised the item, asked for money via e-transfer and then gave a Powell River address for pickup. The address did not belong to the seller and the account came back with a message that the person was no longer available when the buyers attempted further contact.
RCMP cautions people about sending money to anyone they do not know and to consider meeting in person for cash payments. When sending money to a known person, always verify that they are expecting a payment by phoning or sending a message outside of social media.
