A missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, men and two-spirited (MMIWG2S) people memorial walk happened Friday, May 5, 2023, from Powell River City Hall, along Marine Avenue to Willingdon Beach.
Despite the rainy weather, organizer Cyndi Pallen led the marchers who wore red and held banners to recognize and honour the many who have gone missing and/or were murdered.
The sombre event had marchers on the lawn at Willingdon, while First Nations elders and community members stood under the Rotary pavilion and shared their stories, thoughts, songs and prayers with everyone.
The event was sponsored by qathet SAFE, Tla’amin Nation and First Credit Union.
