First held on June 21 in 1996, National Aboriginal Day honours the heritage, culture and achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in Canada.
This year National Aboriginal Day, Sunday, June 21, follows the conclusion and release of official recommendations from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Local events include a craft and art market with door prizes, food and music in the parking lot at Sliammon Chichuy Kindergarden and Preschool on Salish Drive on Friday, June 19, between 11 am and 3 pm. All are welcome to attend.
Tla’amin elder Elsie Paul will be in attendance signing copies of her award-winning book, Written as I Remember It: Teachings from the Life of a Sliammon Elder.
