IN MEMORIAM: The local Knights of Columbus order contributed $3,272.07 to Assumption School’s Bridget Bigold Tuition Assistance fund and [from left] Dave Formosa, grand knight of the Knights of Columbia, Lisa Berg, principal of Assumption School and Gerry Anderson, financial secretary of the Knights of Columbus, were on hand to provide the money to the fund.

Knights of Columbus Father John B. Collins Order, Powell River, has provided Assumption School a contribution to the Bridget Bigold Tuition Assistance fund to provide funding to help students who may not have the money to attend the school.

Knights of Columbus grand knight Dave Formosa said this is the second year the organization has contributed to the tuition assistance fund and he is hoping that the knights can be regular contributors.

“After the death of Bridget Bigold, who was a teacher at Assumption School for many years, having taught my kids and grandkids, a bursary was established in her name to help families who want to send their kids to Assumption but can’t afford it,” said Formosa. “There’s different activities throughout the community and the Assumption parish that contribute to this fund and I do know there are a number of students who are enjoying attending Assumption School through this program.”

Formosa said children attending Assumption don’t necessarily have to be Catholic.

“For families who want to see their kids get this type of education that couldn’t otherwise do so, the tuition fund helps,” said Formosa. “The Knights of Columbus are trying to help with the fund every year.”
