The lower Sunshine Coast is home to not only a thriving brewery set on a farm that produces grains, apples, vegetables and eggs, but Persephone Brewing Company, established in Gibsons, BC, in 2013, is a Certified B Corporation; the designation indicates that a business is meeting high standards in social and environmental performance.
This Saturday, September 9, the company is hosting a beer and bowling event in the qathet region, at Strikers Bar and Grill and the bowling alley next door, Westview Bowling and Billiards.
“From 2 pm to 4 pm, there will be free bowling and beer on us [Persephone],” said shareholder and brewing better community coordinator Zarah Gale. “We are looking to expand into the community and say ‘hello’ at the event.”
This event is not a sales pitch, but staff and chief operations officer Sara Parsley will be on hand to let folks know about a crowdfunding opportunity with the company. This will be the fourth one the brewing company has had.
“The company does this regularly, where we offer shares in the company,” said Gale. “With the crowdfunding platform, people can invest for as little as $100, and become part owner of the company.”
Currently there are 420 owners and Persephone is looking to expand its community of shareholders outside of the lower Sunshine Coast.
“Sara has been with the company since the beginning and has deep roots up here in Powell River,” said Gale, who wanted to reiterate that the event is for the community (in qathet) and not a sales event. “If people want to learn more, we will give them that information.”
Persephone will also be attending the Three Chicken Farm beer festival south of town later this month.
“We are a proud B-certified company,” said Gale. “We are working hard to expand into Powell River, and there should be an announcement soon.”
