HEAT WAVE: The heat is back for August 2 and forecast to be in the high 20s for the next seven days. Today's high temperature will hit 28 degrees Celsius at 3 pm today.

The Weatherhood station located on the roof of the Peak office (4493F Marine Avenue, Powell River), is predicting temperatures to be between 26 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees in the afternoons for the next seven days.

Today, Friday, August 2, the temperature will rise to 28 degrees around 3 pm and begin to cool off around sunset, which is occuring at 8:59 pm this evening. On Saturday, August 3, the temperature will be at 24 degrees by noon. There is zero chance of rain in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday.

Many people will be travelling for the BC Day long weekend, with BC Day occurring on Monday, August 5.

The 11:50 am Westview (Powell River) to Comox (Little River) sailing reservations are fully booked as of now, but the 5:15 pm and 8:45 pm are still taking reservations.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the month of July was marked by the fires out west and the rains out east. July saw unprecedented heat across Canada, especially in eastern British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, southeastern Yukon and the southern Northwest Territories.

British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan each recorded their driest and hottest July since 1980. This extreme heat and lack of rainfall likely contributed to the recent surge in forest fires across these regions.
