POSITIVE IMPACT: Powell River – Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons announced community gaming grants for two local organizations, which have impact in human and social services.

Local organizations will continue to deliver programs that improve people’s quality of life due to nearly $61 million in community gaming grants for human and social services, according to Powell River – Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons.

“Part of what makes the Sunshine Coast such a vibrant place to live is the many community organizations that step up to support people in the area,” stated Simons, in a media release. “Whether you’ve lived in the area long-term, or are new to the region, you know the positive impact organizations like Sunshine Coast Resource Centre Society, or the Powell River Child, Youth and Family Services Society have on our communities.”

The release stated that organizations are receiving funding for human and social services, such as meeting the needs of under-served groups, providing public outreach and education, and more. Some of the organizations receiving funding in Powell River include: Powell River Child, Youth and Family Services Society, $100,000; Powell River Brain Injury Society, $55,000.

The $61 million in funding this year for human and social services grants comes out of the $140 million distributed annually to not-for-profit organizations that deliver other essential services and make life better for people in British Columbia, the release stated.
