Valentine's Day, Friday, February 14, is a popular time for folks to express affection to loved ones with greetings and gifts.

It has been suggested by historians that the holiday has origins in the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, held in mid-February; it celebrated the coming of spring, including fertility rites and the pairing off of women with men by lottery.

However, modern society has come a long way from ancient Roman rituals, and now, the day is celebrated, or not celebrated at all, in a variety of quirky ways.

Galentine’s Day is a pop-culture trend that has caught on with many, and can take place anytime, but officially on February 13. The day is for celebrating women's friendship and empowerment, usually marked by a night out, or in, eating, sipping and talking, with gal-pals only.
