First artist trading cards event in qathet a success

Organizers hope to host the gathering once a month

Harvey Chometsky was all smiles at the back of Westview Bowling & Billiards on Thursday evening, at the first artists' trading cards event in qathet. The gathering was organized by qathet Art and Wares owners Evelyn Russell and Karen Skadsheim (also known as bad karen), with art card trading enthusiast Harvey Chometsky.

Chometsky said he has gone to similar events in places such as Berlin, Germany. He believes the conceptual art project was started by Swiss artist M. Vänçi Stirnemann in 1997.

The artist trading cards are 2.5 by 3.5 inches in size. They are self-made unique works that are exchanged and collected by people at the event.

The intention is that anyone can participate and any techniques are allowed, making the gathering a fun social one. More than 30 people, young and senior, gathered around tables and created their own works of art on the cards. People then walked around and traded them.

The little cards should be signed and dated on the back. Russell and Skadsheim hope to make the event a monthly one.
