April 10

Duncan Street near Padgett Road

At approximately 2:30 am a green Mercury Sable was observed crossing the centre line of the road. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver demonstrated signs of alcohol consumption and refused to provide a breath sample. As a resulted the vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver’s licence was seized for 90 days.

April 11

Ortona Avenue at Drake Street

At approximately 8:30 pm a traffic stop was conducted. The driver did not have a valid driver’s licence and as a result the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

April 12

4700 block Joyce Avenue

At approximately 2 am a vehicle backed into a light pole in a business parking lot. Police attended and spoke to the driver who demonstrated signs of alcohol consumption and failed two separate roadside screening device tests. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days and the driver’s licence was seized for 90 days.

April 12

Texada Island

At approximately 2:30 pm Texada Island RCMP received a call from the Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria advising that a plane had just crashed on Texada Island. The pilot, who was the only occupant, survived the crash and was able to walk to a nearby property where he was examined by BC Ambulance Service paramedics before being transported to Powell River General Hospital for treatment of minor, non-life-threatening injuries. The initial investigation leads investigators to believe that while the pilot was conducting aerial surveys the plane lost power forcing the pilot to make an emergency crash landing.
