Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is adding an additional COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Powell River on April 28.

Registration for a vaccine opened to those born in 1981 or earlier (age 40-plus) on April 19, according to a VCH media release.

People born in 1958 or earlier (63-plus), Indigenous people born in 2002 or earlier and people who are clinically extremely vulnerable are currently being invited to book an appointment to be vaccinated as part of BC’s Immunization Plan.

Information on how to book an appointment for vaccination is available on the BC Ministry of Health’s website. To register for an appointment, go to http://www.vch.ca/covid-19/covid-19-vaccine, or call 1.833.838.2323. The VCH website will be updated as further clinic dates are confirmed.

VCH regularly monitors and adjusts clinic dates and hours of operation based on appointments, vaccine availability and the age demographics in communities it serves, according to the release.

The health authority is asking people to check their scheduled appointment date, time and location; arrive on time for their appointment and avoid arriving early; and wear a short-sleeve shirt as the vaccine will be delivered to their upper arm. People will be monitored after receiving their vaccine for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, pharmacies in Powell River are now taking registrations and making appointments, as supplies allow, for residents over the age of 40 who are interested in receiving an AstraZeneca vaccination.
