In an update issued on April 12, Tla’amin Nation has announced it is relieved there are no new active cases of COVID-19 since its previous update on April 11. Lab-confirmed cases in Tla’amin remain at five.
The update states that outdoor physical activity and wellness is important for everyone.
“As weather conditions improve, we would like to remind everyone to play safe outdoors by avoiding crowded spaces and continue to practice physical distancing (six feet apart),” the update stated. “Many of us have remained indoors over the past months, so it is important to take it slow with outdoor activities. Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water as hot weather can affect everyone’s health.”
The update included a reminder from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry: “Bending the rules only delays our ability to put the pandemic behind us, so let’s ensure we are not looking for exceptions to the orders we have in place, but rather looking to how we can help each other to stay small, stay local and stay strong in the face of COVID-19.”
Outdoor burning remains temporarily paused in Tla’amin to prevent harming those experiencing respiratory difficulty.
The update states that the executive council and Tla’amin Health extend a big thank-you to everyone cooperating with the curfew order from 8 pm to 8 am to contain the spread of COVID-19.
People are urged to continue to self-isolate and monitor for symptoms if they have been instructed to do so.
“If you, or anyone you know are experiencing COVID symptoms such as fever, cough, fatigue, muscle pain, lack of appetite, loss of sense of taste or smell – you need to be tested,” the update stated.
Testing is available in two locations. The drive-through testing clinic is at a new location at the Medical Clinic Associates, by appointment only. Those needing testing can register online at prcomplexclinic.com (preferred) or call 604.485.3572 between 9 and 11 am Monday to Friday (except statutory holidays).
Powell River General Hospital’s emergency department also offers testing. People are urged to get tested there if they have severe symptoms or cannot wait for an appointment at the drive-through clinic. Registration is at the front desk, according to the update.
For those in Tla’amin who are in isolation and require resources, including clinical and/or mental health and wellness needs, they can call 604.578.0447. Those requiring harm reduction services and supplies can call 604.223.4430.
