The Weatherhood app is forecasting much cooler temperatures in the qathet region for today, Monday, November 18. The temperature will be three degrees Celsius at 12 pm, but dip back down to one degree this evening.

A special weather statement was issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) for Tuesday, November 19, from 2 pm, to Wednesday, November 20, at 7 pm.

"Very windy conditions are expected Tuesday to Wednesday morning with peak wind speeds expected Tuesday night," according to the ECCC alert for sḵelhp (Saltery Bay) to Powell River.

"A significant fall storm is set to impact Vancouver Island beginning on Tuesday. An area of low pressure will deepen rapidly some 400 kilometres an hour west of Vancouver Island on Tuesday. This low is forecast to then curl northwards on Wednesday, remaining off shore through the period."

The ECCC warned that coastal areas will see southeasterly winds increase through the afternoon on Tuesday, with peak wind speeds expected for most areas on Tuesday night. Strong winds are likely to continue on Wednesday morning but should ease later in the day. Very strong outflow winds can also be expected through mainland inlets and valleys.

Some areas can also expect heavy rain at times during this event, but winds will remain the primary concern.

The special weather statement for the Sunshine Coast is as follows: Strong winds may down trees and cause tree limbs to break; Be prepared for power outages and travel delays will be possible; Secure loose outdoor objects.
