Busy weekend for BC Ferries, plus rain in qathet region forecast

The sun will be back in time for Monday, July 1, Canada Day

MIXED BAG: The Canada Day long weekend is here and many folks will be travelling. There will be a mix of sun and clouds from June 28 until Sunday, June 30, with a prediction of sunny skies for Monday, July 1. The sun was shining earlier this week at Second Beach (photo) below the Willingdon Beach Trail.

The Weatherhood app is indicating a mix of rain and cloud with some clearing in the afternoon, today, June 28, until Sunday, June 30. Temperatures will be hovering around 20 degrees Celsius in the daytime on both Saturday and Sunday but will drop to 14 degrees during the evening. There is a 50 per cent chance of rain on Sunday but the sun will come out on holiday Monday, July 1, Canada Day. 

BC Ferries has indicated on its website that significant traffic volume is expected Saturday, June 29 because of the PRISMA Symphony Cruise and Concert that will take place tomorrow. The 9:55 am departure from Little River (Comox) Terminal is expected to have heavy traffic as will the 5:55 pm departure from Westview (Powell River) Terminal.

If people choose to stay in town this weekend, the City of Powell River is hosting a Canada Day celebration on Monday, July 1 at Willingdon Beach. The event takes place from 3 to 10:30 pm with fireworks at sunset.
