BC Ferries announced early this morning that the following January 20 Island Discovery sailings between Blubber Bay (Texada Island) and Westview (Powell River) terminals had been cancelled due to a staffing issue.
7:50 am departing Blubber Bay
8:35 am departing Westview
In an update, BC Ferries stated it had sourced a crew member for the round trip and would sail the 7:50 am departing Texada Island and the 8:35 am departing Powell River.
One hour later, BC Ferries announced multiple cancellations on the route as follows:
9:20 am departing Blubber Bay
10:20 am departing Westview
11:25 am departing Blubber Bay
12:15 pm departing Westview
"We require a specific number of crew members on board the vessel to ensure the safety of our passengers in the unlikely event of an emergency and to comply with Transport Canada regulations," stated BC Ferries regarding the decision.
A water taxi will service the route departing the government dock at Powell River. On Texada, the water taxi will depart from Van Anda. The water taxi will follow BC Ferries' schedule. Service will resume with the 3 pm sailing departing Texada, according to BC Ferries.
In a further update at 12:50 pm, BC Ferries advised that the Island Discovery would resume service with the following additional round trip before returning to scheduled sailings.
1 pm departing Blubber Bay
1:50 pm departing Westview
