POLAR VORTEX: Although the coldest air of the season swept across BC this past weekend, the sun was out, making it the perfect weather for a winter hike. Below seasonal conditions will continue on BC's coast throughout the next week. The photo above was taken at a viewpoint on Scout Mountain.

Widespread extreme cold is gripping much of Canada right now. Although BC's coast has also experienced some colder than usual temperatures, and a polar vortex this last weekend, folks living in qathet may feel a little spoiled with the amount of sunshine the region has had.

People living in northern Ontario and Quebec have recently experienced some bone-chilling temperatures of minus-43 degrees Celsius in the past few days.

According to Weatherhood, there is going to be another Arctic blast across southern BC this week. Today, Monday, January 17, and Tuesday, January 28, the daytime temperature will be five degrees, dropping to one degree in the evening. Wednesday, January 29 and Thursday, January 30, the temperature will hover around three degrees in the daytime, dipping to between minus one and minus three degrees overnight, with a possibility of a small amount of snow falling.

Friday, January 31, there is a 98 per cent chance of snow flurries at noon. Going forward, below seasonal conditions will continue for southern portions of the province throughout next week.
