qathet Regional District's board endorsed the revised North Island 911 (NI911) Corporation shareholder agreement at a meeting on December 6.

According to correspondence from NI911, the corporation manages the provision of 911 services, including receiving and dispatching calls for fire, police and ambulance for regional districts and municipalities in the central and north Vancouver Island region and portions of the Sunshine Coast.

Following a thorough review of the net cost apportionment model conducted over several years, the NI911 board unanimously endorsed setting a method of cost apportionment to run the services, with 50 per cent based on assessed values of homes and 50 per cent on population.

The NI911 correspondence stated that qRD is responsible for 8.42 per cent of the corporation’s budget.
