Tourism Powell River has launch a VIP card program to help local businesses in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic

A new initiative to help local businesses in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic has been launched by Tourism Powell River (TPR).

A series of free collectable VIP cards, valid until the end of 2021, are available for pickup at the Powell River Visitor Centre (4760 Joyce Avenue), according to a media release. The cards can be used at local participating businesses displaying the decal in their window offering a discount or perk of some kind to customers who present their card at point of purchase.

“We’ve been assessing what we can do to help grow momentum around shopping locally and supporting Tourism Powell River members and local businesses as we see the end of the pandemic in the coming future,” stated TPR executive director Tracey Ellis. “This is a win that works both ways for both business and customers.”

Tourism Powell River members will receive their decals in the mail. Other businesses are welcome to pick up a decal at the visitor centre. Discounts or other perks are up to participating businesses to determine and promote.

“As we begin to reopen to visitors as pandemic numbers decline, we will be offering the cards to every visitor to the visitor centre to encourage their visitation to local businesses while they are here,” stated Ellis.

To launch the program, Powell River Visitor Centre will be offering 20 per cent off souvenirs to cardholders during the month of March.
