Ground has been broken on Coastal Breeze Village, a 76-suite seniors independent living facility now under construction in Westview.

There was sod-turning ceremony on Wednesday, September 11, interspersed with dump trucks rumbling by the construction site, with Powell River mayor Dave Formosa, inclusion Powell River CEO Lilla Tipton and representatives from Golden Life Management, the builder of the project, speaking.

This project has been brought to fruition through a close collaboration between Golden Life Management and inclusion Powell River, which provides services as a local consultant as well as financial resources toward the project.

“Bringing full service seniors housing to Powell River has been very important to our society and our team has worked tirelessly with Golden Life Management to bring it to fruition,” said Tipton. “Our team is very excited to see this project breaking ground and believe seniors in this community will greatly benefit from our efforts.”

Coastal Breeze Village is on Joyce Avenue in Powell River next to the hospital and adjacent to the recreation complex, offering access to health and recreation amenities the community has to offer. The village will provide several housing options, meals in multiple restaurants, and the security of various support systems to help seniors enjoy an active and independent lifestyle.

“More than ever the emphasis for seniors is on lifestyle,” said Celeste Mullin of Golden Life Management. “We have responded to that by providing well-designed buildings where we can deliver high standards of services and amenities, which enhance independence and quality of life for seniors.”

The independent living housing options include studio, one- and two-bedroom independent living suites with several easily accessible common areas such as the chef’s dining room, a pub, an afternoon bistro/café, a well-stocked library, an onsite beauty salon, fitness room, a games room, multiple lounges and a workshop. Suites will also offer 24-hour emergency monitoring, 24-hour staff, housekeeping services, chef-prepared meals, scheduled courtesy shuttle bus, choice of recreation and social activities, and personalized care services available on a short or long-term basis.

Construction of the project began this summer and is estimated to be complete in the summer of 2020. Booking of suites will begin on October 21 at inclusion Powell River’s ARC Community Event Centre at 7055 Alberni Street.
