Cutting your flower on an angle creates more surface area. More surface area equals more space for the uptake of water.
Cutting your flower stems on an angle also ensures that they are not sitting flat at the bottom of the vase and unable to access water.
Be sure to give your flowers a fresh cut (on an angle) every time you replace the water. Try this with your next bouquet and see if you notice a difference.
